Simple French Toast !!

French Toast

I don't know about you but this is one of the staples of my youth, with breakfast or even brunch really. It can't be made with any other bread besides Texas toast, well I guess if you have thick cut bread it will work but for Easiness sake you can buy it cut thick like you see here in this picture! its really the only way to go when your making french toast. Other then the bread all the other ingredients you should have on hand at home, which makes it one of the easier breakfast foods to make, and one of the fastest.

French toast is rather simple to make, and most people already have their own version on how it should be made. This post will most likely be a short and sweet one because of such. Generally you want to start with a wide mouth bowl, maybe a salad plate where the sides are kinda raised. You want to be able to lay a piece of bread down flat in it, this bowl you see in the picture above is the bowl I usually use every time I make french toast. Depending on how much french toast you will be making will depend on of course how much of the ingredients you will use and the size of the bowl you will need, the recipe I will be giving you is for maxish 4 pieces of Texas sized french toast so that's about two servings (depending on who your feeding) you can in fact push 5, you just wont have much to really soak that last piece into, and depending again on who your feeding they may not mind.

You want to mix 2 eggs about 1 1/2 tablespoons of granular sugar, 2 teaspoons cinnamon, about 1/4 cup of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. After you have made the mix heat a skillet to medium low heat, you don't want to let the pan get to hot, you will burn the toast before its actually cooked through. I like to make what I call a dunking station over on my stove or somewhere close to the stove so that everything runs smoothly, or really so I don't make a mess all over everything (because I tend to do that).

So what you want to do is really just dunk the bread into the bowl on one side first, count 1, 1 thousand 2, 1 thousand and then flip it over on to its other side and do the same thing, then from there you want to carefully place it into the pan so you don't get any oil splash, or even any of that great egg mixture to splash either. You can let the bread really soak in the batter if you want, its just going to leave the center of the french toast with more of a creamy texture, it will be cooked it will just be I guess you could say soggy. I don't like mine that way and if you would like to have it my way don't let it sit in that batter any more than a couple of seconds. Now you want to let one side cook just until its a good golden brown, the flip it and do the same to the other side.

Mine might look a little different because I LOVE cinnamon, so I put a little extra in mine, Either way I'm sure you'll find your way to your prefect french toast, hopefully I helped you on your way to finding your perfect french toast or maybe you like this recipe just as is, you can finish with whatever topping your little heart desires, me I'm old fashion I just like butter and maple surup :)!

As always Thanks for Stopping By! Until Next Time! May your food adventures be GREAT!

Ingredients:

1/4 cup Milk
2 Eggs
2 teaspoons Cinnamon
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 1/2 tablespoon sugar

Directions:

In a wide mouth bowl mix all ingredients together with a whisk (if you don't have a whisk that is fine you can use a fork its just easier with a whisk), Make sure to mix thoroughly and that everything is very well combined. Heat a small frying pan on medium low heat, you can about a tablespoon of whatever preferred cooking oil you use and allow that to get warm while you set up your dunking station near or next to said frying pan. When you are ready to dunk, place one side into the mixture and allow it to sit, while counting One, One Thousand, Two, One Thousand, Then flip to the other side and repeat and then carefully place the batter soaked piece of bread into the pan. Cook on that side until it is golden brown in color, which may take approximately 2- 3 minutes depending on your stove. Flip it carefully and do the same to the other side. Repeat with remaining pieces of bread. Top finished french toast with whatever your little heart desires, its best to eat them while still warm, but I you should try not to eat them right out of the pan (they will be incredibly hot), consider your mouth warned :)  ENJOY!
