Tropical Frozen yogurt YUM! and so what its cold, start making some now and become a pro before summer!
Tropical Frozen Yogurt, yes it is in fact cold outside so you may be thinking, why in the world are you making frozen yogurt. Well even when it's cold outside I still have cravings for ice cream, but instead of having ice cream, I've opted out for something a little more healthy. If you have a food processor it makes this a bit easier for the blending of the frozen fruit, but you can still use a blender if its all you have it just takes a little bit longer, or more like you will have to blend the fruit in parts instead of all together in one go.
I used regular plain yogurt, if you love Greek yogurt be my guest use it, who am I to tell you what you should use, you can also get a flavored yogurt if that is what you wish. I like the plain because I know that there isn't any added sugars, and that all the sweeteners in my frozen yogurt are natural, from the fruit and the honey. I also get a mixed bag of frozen fruits that way I can pick out what I want to use. You will also need a large container that can with stand the cold of your freezer, I used a glad freezer container it can hold both hot and cold items, and it was really inexpensive at Wal-mart.
I wanted my frozen yogurt to be more like a sherbet, so I made it more fruit then yogurt, it has more liquid in it that way so when it freezes it has a little bit of a different texture, if you want it to be more like ice cream, put the yogurt in the food processor and add the fruit to it little by little until it has the consistency that you want. It will turn into a more ice cream like texture if there is more yogurt then frozen fruit. If you use fresh fruit which you most defiantly can do it will also turn out a little more like ice cream because there isn't as much liquid in it like when it freezes, unless you use a large amount of fresh fruits, but thats if you want it to be more like a sherbet instead of an ice cream. So here I blended my frozen fruit first so that it was a sort of puree, and then I dumped out the fruit from the food processor put in the yogurt and then slowly added the fruit puree until it was all Incorporated.
I added honey to sweeten it up a bit, it defiantly gives is a great flavor and its more healthy then adding a bunch of sugar. You can leave it as is, add honey or add sugar, which ever you feel would be a better flavor for you. After its all mixed together, put it in a container and pop it in the freezer and let it sit in there over night.
Super easy way to get some yummy sherbet/ice cream to satiety that craving for ice cream without hurting your diet or making you feel unhealthy. Plus it also makes for really good smoothies, like a short cut to getting that great breakfast on the go all you need to add is some kind of juice and a few scoops of the frozen yogurt. You can do whatever you want with it.
Hopefully I've helped you out with trying to make your own frozen yogurt.

Tropical Frozen Yogurt Recipe
About 3 to 4 cups of frozen fruit (of your choice) I used about a cup of Peaches, 1 1/2c. of Pineapple and 1-2 cups of mango.
I used a whole 2lb container of Plain Yogurt.
1/2c. of honey
Directions: Add fruit to a food processor or blender and blend well until puree is formed, dump the frozen fruit into a container and add yogurt to the food processor or blender, add the fruit puree to the yogurt slowly until all has been incorporated. Put in the freezer overnight or for atleast 4-5 hrs. Enjoy how ever you want.
Yummy! Good substitute when my ice cream addiction strikes.
